Each gram contains:
Levamisole HCl IP.........................................300 mg
Levamisole hydrochloride is a cholinomimetic agent with broad-spectrum anthelmintic and immunomodulatory properties.
Neuromuscular Disruption: Levamisole acts as a ganglionic stimulant, mimicking acetylcholine activity at nicotinic receptors, leading to spastic paralysis of nematodes, which are then expelled from the host.
Metabolic Inhibition: It inhibits fumarate reductase, a key enzyme in the anaerobic metabolism of parasites, disrupting energy production and leading to worm death.
Immunostimulation: Levamisole enhances cell-mediated immunity (CMI) by stimulating T-lymphocytes, macrophages, and natural killer (NK) cells, improving immune response in immunocompromised animals.
Levamisole HCl is used for the treatment and prophylaxis of nematode infestations, including roundworms in both adult and larval stages. Additionally, it serves as an immune stimulant in animals with weakened immune function.
